Woman charged with failing to pay Ksh. 230,000 VALENTINE’S bill in five star hotel


A 27-year-old woman has been charged in court for allegedly failing to pay a five star hotel expenses she incurred during the recently concluded Valentine day.

Laura Oyier Ogolla was arraigned before a Milimani Law Courts resident magistrate Ms Edda Agade  accused of incurring credit of Sh 229,505 at the Inter-Continental Hotel by pretending that she was in a position to foot bills for the services rendered.

Laura who is a Musician checked into the five star hotel as a guest on January 27 and stayed on until February 16 2015.

The prosecution led by Chief Inspector Alice Njeru told Ms Agade that the accused enjoyed various services during her 21 days stay at the high cost hotel.

The prosecution alleges that the accused was sneaking out of the hotel and returning at the wee hours of the morning without being noticed by the staff at the reception.

FAILED TO PAY FOR SERVICES

The suspect was arrested on February 16 and detained in police custody until Wednesday when she was charged after failing to pay for the services rendered.

Laura who was accused of obtaining credit through false pretext contrary to section 316 of the penal code applied to be admitted to bond.

“I urge this honourabe court to grant me bail. Am not a flight risk and I am citizen,” Ms Ogolla pleaded.

Inspector Njeru did not oppose the bail plea by the accused saying Article 49 (h) of the Constitution allows every suspect to be “released on bond or bail on reasonable conditions pending trial and determination of the case against him or her.”

In her brief ruling, Ms Agade allowed Laura’s plea to bail. She ordered the musician to deposit a cash bail of Sh100,000 pending determination of the case.

She also directed the prosecution to supply the suspect with all witness statements and any exhibits which will be relied as evidence at the trial. Laura’s trial commences on April 15.
